Taqaza-e-Dukhtaran Scholarship Program for Girls

In 2008, Barakat started a scholarship program for girls in Afghanistan that will sponsor a year of their education after the 8th grade. Through this initiative, the selected students gain access to an education that few women have, particularly women from these regions of Afghanistan. As a result of their education and experiences, they act as role models for the younger girls in their family and community. The girls chosen for the program must be self-motivated, committed to their education and come from families with constrained financial means. The cost of educating a girl for one year ranges from $110-$600 depending on the type and level of school.

In the summer of 2010, Barakat launched a second Scholarship Program for Girls in Pakistan.
