Barakat Featured Program Partner of UUSC

One of Barakat's most supportive program partners, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), is currently featuring Barakat on its website.

The UUSC is an international nonprofit organization that advances human rights and social justice in the United States and around the world. The UUSC addresses these issues by focusing on four program areas: defending civil liberties, advancing economic justice, promoting environmental justice, and protecting rights in humanitarian crises.

This summer, the UUSC partnered with Barakat to promote human rights in Afghanistan by creating a human rights training program. The program, which targets teachers and administrators in Barakat programs and Afghan government schools, introduces topics related to human rights into the curricula taught in Barakat's schools and literacy programs.

By training teachers and administrators how to integrate these topics into their lessons, the program is already reaching hundreds of students in the northwestern provinces of Afghanistan. Barakat program directors in Afghanistan say that the program has received positive reviews from participants. The directors are already looking to expand the program next year.

The UUSC is also a sponsor of the upcoming Walk for Literacy, and has provided invaluable support to Barakat over the past year. We look forward to continuing and deepening this partnership in the future.
