Scholarship Program for Girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan
Making a difference in the lives of girls is a commitment that means supporting them beyond the services that are provided in school. It means standing by them as they struggle to continue their education in the face of familial and even political opposition. This is where Barakat steps in with Scholarships for Girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
AFGHANISTAN: Under the present circumstances, girls are permitted to go into nursing and midwifery to 2-year colleges by the Taliban. Barakat is sponsoring 10 girls who are studying to achieve these educational milestones, having completed 12th grade prior to the regime of the Taliban. 5 of these 10 girls are graduates of Barakat’s Mullah Kareem Nazar School.
We will continue to expand this program and explore other options as well for educating female students in Afghanistan.
PAKISTAN: In order to help Barakat school graduates, our Scholarship Program for High School Girls is working to provide financial backing as well as social support to girls who graduate 8th grade and want to pursue High School education.
These girls will serve as role-models to others in their own Afghan refugee community in Pakistan. The program serves not just to support financially, but also to encourage the girls and their family members with regard to continuing their education. It gives that extra push to girls who are dreaming of pursuing their education but face both financial and societal pressure to stop school as soon as they start approaching adolescence.
